Answering Kleist

BRANDENBURG IN EUROPE: INTERNATIONAL DAYS OF LITERATURE IN SEARCH OF LITERATURE AS A EUROPEAN MOTHER TONGUE
ANSWERING KLEIST

Heinrich von Kleist is a classic figure in the history of German-language literature. As a writer of letters, however, he is somewhat controversial. Kleist’s letters offer the reader of today a variety of ways to make connections in the present and to broach questions which are pertinent today. The texts discuss questions of emancipation and sexuality plays a significant role. The letters also deal the state of being on the road, and are themselves fragmentary, broken, polemic and enigmatic. Indeed, it is the perfect material with which to invite the European Authors on th OMNIBUS Reading Tour to get to grips with this German literary great !

Reading is writing is reading … Literature arises above all through literature itself: working together with the Kleist Museum, we will be presenting the authors in CROWD with a letter from Kleist. We will invite them to see themselves as the letter’s addresse and accordingly, transcending time, cultural space, language and medium, to answer them using their own stylistic devices, their own approaches, themes, expressions and contemporary questions. In short: Answering Kleist!

Answering Kleist: In cooperation with the KLEIST-MUSEUM.
