Cyprus calling: festivals and residencies!

Dear CROWDies, today we bring you two calls, both from Cyprus, one for the SARDAM alternative literary readings festival, the other for a residency in the Boubouki cottage! The phones are blowing up! If you want more details on how to apply to the festival or the residency, make sure to keep on reading!

First up is SARDAM, an an annual, out of the box, literature festival, based in Cyprus that was founded in 2013 by the writer Maria A. Ioannou and the artistic group aRttitude. The festival presents the work of writers from Cyprus and abroad in alternative, mixed media ways. If you are a writer, interested in presenting your original work in innovative ways, then this is just for you! From Slam Poetry to Sound Poetry, from video to interactive writing-related software, Sardam is open to any kind of literary innovation and experimentation, as long as it has meaning and literary quality.

To apply to the festival, which takes place in Cyprus in October, you should send your bio, a photo, a writing sample (be it poetry, prose, experimental literature or something else), relevant links or videos of your previous readings or performances and your SARDAM 2017 project idea to arrtitudecyprus@gmail.com. Act fast, the application deadline is on the 30th November 2016.

If you are instead looking to soak up the wonderful Cypriot sun and get closer to the singing of muses, you can apply to a writers/artist residency at the Boubouki cottage. Located in Mesana Village of Paphos district, it is described as the ideal retreat for those seeking peace, quiet and inspiration. Run by writer Maria A. Ioannou with the help of aRttitude, the Mesana village Council, PLATO Educational Services, Inprima and Exertus Services, the cottage offers 2-6 week stays in either November or February.

Boubouki accomodates up to 2 writers/artists at the same time only, in order to secure each writer’s/artist’s seclusion and privacy. Bikes, a mini library with literature mostly in English and Greek, note pads, pens, pencils, an operating typewriter and laptop (upon request) are available to all writers/artists. The writers/artists in residence and their work will be presented electronically through websites, blogs and social media,as well as having a public reading event and/or workshop at the end of their residency.

If you would like to apply, you should send your photo, a short bio, a project proposal, samples of your previous work, your proposed duration of stay and contact details (all in English) to bouboukiresidency@gmail.com.
